Here at Greycroft you will find real North country hospitality set in the
splendid scenery of "England's Last Wilderness".
The North Pennines are now established as an "Area of Outstanding Beauty",
and Alston, as its focus, has a wide variety of attractions.
Greycroft is set on a corner site with open views south across the beautiful
South Tyne valley towards Cross Fell (the highest point on the Pennines) is in
the peaceful hamlet of the Raise, one mile from Alston, and is tastefully
furnished to a high standard with our guests in mind.

This beautiful mountain area is little known and still unspoilt, but the warm
hospitality, quite wooded valleys and old buildings make it well worth exploring.
Greycroft offers Bed and Breakfast with optional dinners (special diets by
arrangement).). There is no choice of menu - you will find (for example) home
made soup, roast beef, steak pies and delicious home made sweets. We even
bake our own bread rolls. We do not have a drinks licence, but you are
welcome to bring your own.
For the benefit of our guests we are a totally non-smoking household. You are
welcome to bring your pets if they will sleep in the car.
Accommodation provided is one Double and one Family room, both en suite.
Rooms include tea making facilities, cotton sheets, electric blankets, easy
chairs, radio and hairdryers. The bungalow is centrally heated,
thermostatically controlled for your benefit, and has a living flame gas fire for
early and late season.
We have an abundance of garden birds visit our garden, including the Great
Spotted Woodpecker, other birds in the area include the Skylark, Herons,
Buzzards, Grouse, Pheasant, Blackcock and Peregrine Falcons, ideal for bird
watchers among us.
The area has many rare wild flowers and grasses including Wild Orchids and
Gentiouns. The meadows in June are a picture, many people come to see the
area at this time just to see it in bloom.
