In 1891 George Lowe, Professional at Royal Lytham & St Annes, travelled to the Lake District to look for a site for a new golf course. He liked what he saw at Cleabarrow Fells and went on to design a nine-hole course. His vision proved to be most successful and eighteen months later the course was extended to eighteen holes.

Over one hundred years later the success and popularity of Windermere Golf Club continues.

Throughout the long period of playing golf at Cleabarrow there have been many changes to the course, but the magnificent and memorable views from the course remain for all to enjoy.

There are many who refer to Windermere as the "mini Gleneagles" and what the club has to offer is truly worth a visit. Some would say that a course without bunkers in an anachronism, but trouble comes in many other forms at this Cumbrian delight - heather, bracken, trees, rock and water are dishing out punishment to the errant golfer. The 'thinking golfer' is certainly rewarded here although the dramatic scenery can distract the player from the task at hand!

A truly friendly welcome awaits all who visit Windermere and this century old club caters for the casual visitor, golf societies and the corporate market.

Easily accessible from junction 36 of the M6, the course is set in glorious Cumbrian scenery and is a true gem of the North.
