Golf in Aberdeen has entered its sixth century. The Aberdeen Golf Club officially the sixth oldest in the world moved to its present site in 1888, north of the city at Balgownie. It was conferred its Royal status early in the 20th Century by Edward VII.

The narrow piece of land on which the course is laid is barely wide enough for two fairways. Archie and Robert Simpson from Carnoustie were commissioned to design the course and has since been augmented by Tom Simpson, JH Taylor and James Braid who could only add bunkers and length to the course.

Just recently Donald Steel has been making adjustments. He added a first par 5 to the back nine and a new green for the 13th. This now gives the course a length of 6700 yards from the back tees.
