It might be something to do with pedigree but in the space of just six years Cottrell Park has become a very popular venue of the outskirts of Cardiff.
The pedigree comes not so much from the land, which is lush rolling parkland on the rim of the Vale of Glamorgan, as from its previous owners one of whom was a Scotsman. Not just any old Scot but Alfred Donald Mackintosh, the 28th chief of Clan Mackintosh and Chief of Clan Chattan, who lived at Cottrell Park at the end of the 19th and start of the 20th centuries.
There is no record that he brought golf down with him but he left a heretage now being enjoyed by golfers who appreciate the fast maturing Mackintosh course of over 6600 yards in length. Backed by an excellent clubhouse and a covered 20 bay driving range, the complex also contains an excellent 9-holer called the Button course which is named after a 17th century admiral famous for exploring and charting the north west American coast, and was also one of Cottrell Park's inspired owners.
