The Vale of Glamorgan is probably the richest of Welsh farming heartlands and when Peter Johnson saw 200 of the precious acres contained in the grounds of Hensol Castle just a mile or so off the M4 he knew he had found the golf site of his dreams.

A tree-lined stream meandered through the undulating meadows feeding a 20 acre lake and crossed with some old stone bridges and dam work that reeked with character.

Official coach of the Welsh Golfing Union and a former Cardiff club professional, Peter had set his heart on designing a golf complex that combined an authentic championship course with the best training facilities. Backed by enthusiastic business partners, Peter has brought his dream to life and the development now embraces a hotel and leisure centre and indoor training facilities used by the Welsh Rugby Union. With a 20-bay driving range, the course was chosen as the headquarters of the Welsh PGA. Work is almost complete on their second championship 18 holer - the PGA National Course.
